Stray 1 in Dentils. Lustrous mint red mellowing to light bluish steel brown on the devices, at least two-thirds of the faded mint color remaining on both sides. A wonderful cent, nearly flawless. There is a small, very light scuff on the cheek and a stain of dark steel toning on the rim over ER in AMERICA. Otherwise this cent is a gem. Sharply struck EDS, die state a. The die lines at the throat are clear and the stray 1 punched into the dentils under the 8 is bold. Not quite as early as the preceding lot since the obverse fields are satiny rather than reflective thanks to extremely fine radial die flowlines. A cent with great eye appeal. Our grade is MS63+, very close to MS64, and CC#4 in the Grellman census for the variety but second finest of the early die state. Comes with a very nice provenance. AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
7. Lots will be available for viewing during the Houston Money Show bourse hours January 17, 2020 and by appointment.
