1851 N-7 R1 AU58Lustrous light golden tan. Very close to mint state; just the lightest touch of friction on the highest points of the devices. A small nick right of the upper lip is a good identifying mark. This is a common die variety but an extremely rare die state. VEDS, the earliest state seen, with prooflike fields on both sides. The right field on the obverse is covered with tiny impressed lint marks as is the field inside the wreath; the rest of the fields on both sides are hard and reflective. It must have been one of the very first cents struck from this die pair. It is not only the finest seen of the die state, it is the only example of the very early die state recorded in the Grellman census.Certificate Number: Pedigree: From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
