1851 N-43 R5 PCGS graded MS64 Red & BrownLustrous mint red mellowing to steel brown on the devices, about 40% of the mint red remaining, mostly on the obverse. Sharply struck with great eye appeal, essentially flawless. The best identifying mark is a microscopic planchet flake (as struck) near the dentils under the left side of the 8. E-MDS, die state a. The short points down to the left from the neck are clear and the point up to the left from the top of the E in CENT is long and sharp. A superior example of this rare die variety. Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#4 in the Grellman census behind a few marginally finer pieces. The attribution and Iskra Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.Certificate Number: 406785.64/81161843Pedigree: Ex Dorothy Gershenson, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 1/1996:599-J. R.
