1851 Large cent w/ Half Cent BrockageQuite the interesting piece with surfaces of dark coal and darker tan to light brown. The variety of this large cent is unknown/undeterminable. To us the position of the 185 aligns closely with an N-30, but the final 1 is sunken quite a bit near the dentils and doesn't match any known Newcomb variety. There is a bold reverse brockage of the reverse die of an 1849-57 half cent on the obverse. An "A.J.L" counterstamp can be see on the reverse as well. Unfortunately, this cent has been holed as well, potentially as a tool tag. Hettger calls this "an error of the utmost importance". We are unsure if this is a true error, or a very well-made fantasy piece. Sharpness of F12, but ungradable. Grellman card and Hettger notes included.Pedigree: G2

AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-attributed.
7. Mail bids, or phone bids will be accepted up through the day of the sale. Please direct email bids to friscomint@live.com. All bids will be reduced. Lots will open at one increment above second highest mail/phone bidder. Bidding will proceed as competition dictates with the lot either selling to the floor or to the mail/web bidder at one increment above the second highest bid. Please see contact information below.
8. Consignors may bid or place a reserve bid on their own coins. Principals of the auction firm may consign and may bid on coins in the sale for themselves or clients.
