1850 N-26 R4 PCGS graded MS64 Red & BrownLustrous mint red fading to bluish steel and light olive. About half the obverse shows faded mint color, and the reverse has underlying very faded mint color in the fields and protected areas. The fields are smooth and slightly reflective thanks to freshly polished dies. This cent would rate gem status if not for a carbon spot nestled between the upper left points of star 5. Otherwise there are only a few minor spots on the obverse; the reverse is pristine. E-MDS, die state b early. The die line above UN reaches to over the center of the N where it fades out. A beautiful example of this tough variety. Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#1 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Naftzger Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.Certificate Number: 406642.64/18900388Pedigree: Ex Fred H. Borcherdt 4/1990 (via J. R. "Bob" Grellman, Jr.)-R. E.
