A beautiful lustrous mint state cent but there is a fine, nearly horizontal scratch on the bottom of the neck. Otherwise this cent is essentially void of marks. Frosty medium brown and light chocolate with generous traces of mellowed mint red on both sides. A splash of slight darker brown toning at the left top of the O in ONE is the only other mark worthy of mention. LDS, die state d, with thinned digits in the date thanks to extensive die polishing. Traces of repunching are now visible under the 1 and 4, and the field around the date is covered with very fine die polishing lines. Tied for CC#4 of the variety in the Grellman census. Comes with a very nice provenance. (This is Newcomb's #13.)Ex J. C. Morgenthau 12/10/1935:385-Henry C. Hines-Floyd T. Starr, Stack's 12/6/1984:1866-Anthony J. Terranova-R. E.
