Glossy mint red fading to steel brown with nearly 25% of the planchet showing mint color. Nicely struck with only trivial marks including a small S-shaped struck through line in the field off the chin (as struck). MDS, Manley state 2.0 early, with fine die polishing lines up from the left end of the base of the 1 and similar fine parallel die lines elsewhere in the obverse fields. The earlier die lines over NI in UNITED are gone. This is the plate coin for Breen's die state II in his half cent encyclopedia (see page 432). A very nice example of a date that seldom comes with this much mint color. Our grade is MS63+. Housed in an older generation PCGS slab.
