Attractive frosty light brown and tan with light steel brown toning on the highpoints. Satiny and attractive with a few barely visible contact marks. A dull, faint mark shows above the right top of the second 8, and another even smaller one is close under the first 8, and a light scratch skips across TES-OF. Otherwise this cent is choice, and the eye appeal is excellent. There is a shallow low spot at star 11 and another under the ear (as struck). M-LDS, die state c. A clear die crack extends from the dentils over star 11 to the main curl. Our grade is AU50. Tied for CC#3 overall for the variety but finest of about two dozen known with the single obverse die crack. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 406485.62/26560604 Ex William C. Noyes-Gary M. Ruttenberg, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 8/19/1995:445-Wesley A.
