Very attractive light olive and steel brown with overtones of light bluish steel. Mint red covers about 15-20% of the planchet, mostly on the obverse. Sharp with great eye appeal but there are a few marks. Some microscopic specks of slightly darker steel brown toning are visible under magnification, mostly on the cheek and neck. The notable contact marks are a thin horizontal scratch on the rim at star 12, a light vertical scratch on the rim over star 6, a horizontal scratch over star 8, a light scratch left of star 11, and a diagonal nick in the hair right of the ear lobe. Sharply struck and none of the marks catches your eye. The reverse is choice. Our grade is Proof-60, but the eye appeal suggests a higher grade. The attribution and Matthews Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.397614.63/38342888Ex Charles J. DuPont (Anderson DuPont Sale), Stack's 9/24/1954:898-John J.
