Lustrous bluish steel and olive brown with 30% of the mint red remaining, mostly on the reverse. No spots or contact marks, but there are some tiny planchet flakes at the dentils right of star 11, as struck. The hair over the ear is not quite fully struck, as usual on this variety. The remainder of the devices are sharp. E-MDS, die state b early. Lightly cracked through the tops of UNITED and ST but there is no crack through the bottom of the date. CC#2 in the Grellman census behind a slightly finer example. Removed from a PCGS holder graded MS64RB (PCGS label #1878.64/6472782 included). A very nice cent that comes with an equally impressive provenance.Ex Dr. Robert J. Shalowitz 4/1992-Wesley A. Rasmussen, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 2/8/1998:178-R. S.
