Date: 1847Frosty medium brown and steel with generous traces of mint red showing in protected areas on both sides. A bit dull; the underlying mint luster is subdued by a very thin layer of oxidation. Has the look of a cent that has never been touched with a brush or oil. Just a few trivial marks including a couple tiny, very light scratches than break the toning on the rim at star 9 and a bit of fine carbon in the dentils over the D in UNITED. LDS, die state d, with die cracks on the reverse. Our grade is AU58; perhaps a bit better if the underlying mint luster was brought to life.1877.64/33290471Ex Stack's Bowers (sale date unknown), lot 31469
