Date: 1847Sharpness AU50 but there are microscopic traces of extremely fine carbon or verdigris on both sides, mostly on the obverse. Just a few small marks including some ticks on the jaw and neck plus a small nick in the dentils at star 10. The fields on the obverse are covered with very fine die rust (tiny lumps on the coin), as always on this variety. Frosty medium brown and light chocolate with small splashes of darker olive brown on the obverse. Very rare LDS, die state f, with a strong rim cud break over TE in STATES in addition to the earlier one at OF-A (Newcomb's #17). Both cuds are bold. CC#1 of only 12 known in the Grellman census. Only 4 in the census grade VF20 or better, and the piece offered here has the best surfaces of the group. Looks better than the description may imply; could easily be called EF40.Ex Craig Sorochin (eBay) 3/2013-Douglas Durasoff, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 1/25/2015:678 (includes the Durasoff collection envelope and lot ticket)
