Date: 1847Glossy light to medium brown on the obverse with medium chocolate covering the reverse. Faint hints of underlying very faded mint color show in a couple protected areas, mostly inside the left part of the wreath. Nicely struck with radial lines in all the stars. The only notable marks are a tiny spot of darker toning in the field close to the middle of the nose and another in the hair well above the R. Both spots are barely visible. MDS, die state c. The reverse is cracked but there are no rim cuds, and the obverse fields are covered with tiny lumps caused by die rust (as nearly always on this variety). Our grade is MS60. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.37328.58/40615501Ex J. R.
