Date: 1847Lustrous light olive and bluish steel with about 20% of the planchet showing slightly mellowed mint red. This cent has outstanding eye appeal but a glass reveals a very fine scratch that meanders down the neck. A small, shallow low spot is located in the field below the chin and a small splash of electric-blue toning covers the ribbon loop below the end of the stem (which is the best identifying mark). MDS, die state c, with several die fine die cracks on the reverse but no rim cuds. The field before the portrait is covered with microscopic lumps thanks to fine die rust (as usual). Our grade is MS63+ net MS62. Tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. Comes with a nice provenance that has been traced back nearly 100 years.1633406-004Ex Willard C. Blaisdell 10/1935-Henry C. Hines-Willard C. Blaisdell 9/15/1976 (via Del Bland)-R. E.
