Date: 1847Frosty medium olive and steel brown with traces of underlying very faded mint color on both sides. The only marks are a puff of lighter golden tan toning at star 3 and another at NITE; there are no notable contact marks. A very shallow low spot covers much of the field behind the portrait (caused by a very thin layer of grease or debris on the die), but everything else is sharp. M-LDS, die state c (Newcomb's old #25), with a fine die crack through the top of ME to the dentils at both ends. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.Ex Bowers & Merena 11/11/1999:388 (as MS64RB)-Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth Collection, Goldbergs 9/26/2021:123 (includes the Ellsworth collection envelope and both lot tickets)
