Date: 1847Frosty golden tan light olive on the obverse with frosty bluish steel and olive brown on the reverse. Peeps of faded red show at TED. Possibly dipped long ago and retoned. The only marks are an extremely light hairline under the chin and a tiny but fresh scrape on the leaf right of the E in ONE. Sharply struck E-MDS, die state b late or state c early. The die crack into the field from the dentils under star 1 ends left of the peak of the 1 and a faint crack reaches from between two dentils to the outer point of star 8. The strong die crack from the dentils to the left base of the 1 has not formed. The portrait is covered with microscopic lumps from die rust, as always on this variety. Our grade is MS60 sharpness net AU50+. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.37319.62/81060556Ex J. R.
