Lustrous medium brown and light chocolate with peeps of faded mint color remaining on the reverse. Frosty flowline luster covers the fields and the eye appeal of this piece is excellent. No spots or stains, just a few trivial contact marks. These include a tiny horizontal tick on the cheek above the throat and a couple light scuff marks near the dentils at stars 12 & 13. LDS, die state f. The obverse die cracks are well advanced and the section between the cracks left of the date is starting to rise as a retained cud (this is clearest where the two cracks cross the rim between the date and star 1). Tied for CC#8 overall for the variety but finest known of die state f in the Grellman census. Removed from a PCGS holder graded MS65BN (PCGS label #37319.65/18900167 included, and it shows the attribution and Naftzger Collection provenance). A great cent and it comes with a very nice provenance.Ex Dr. Kenneth J. Sartoris 7/1972 (via Denis W. Loring)-R. E.
