Date: 1847Lustrous mint red fading to steel brown on the obverse with more than half the planchet showing mint color (a 35/80% split). A choice cent, nearly flawless except for some microscopic specks of darker steel toning on both sides. Couple of these specks contain a trace of carbon but you need a strong glass to fine them. A tiny spot of darker bluish steel toning on the upper part of the first S in STATES can help identify this cent. M-LDS, die state c late, with fine die cracks on the reverse. Only weak traces of the early die lines left of star 1 remain visible. There are a few shallow low spots under CENT, as struck (caused by debris/lubricant on the die). Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#2 behind a marginally finer example in the Grellman census. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Jules Reiver Collection provenance are noted on the NGC label.308008-017Ex Dr. George P. French 1929-B.
