Date: 1847Frosty medium brown and light olive with generous traces of bright mint red remaining visible on the left side of the reverse. The luster is a bit subdued by a thin layer of natural oxidation and there is some dirt in protected areas. The only marks, and they are microscopic, are a faint hairline in the field below the outer hair bun and a tiny planchet lamination at the dentils over star 10. E-MDS, die state a, with flowlines but before any rim cuds. Our grade is AU55, tied for CC#6 in the Grellman census. May grade a bit higher following a proper bath to expose the underlying luster.1877.62/42780873Ex Henry T. Hettger, Early Cents Auctions 1/20/2023:483 (lot ticket included)
