Glossy chocolate and olive brown. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has very nice eye appeal. The only marks are a very fine hairline scratch from the bust tip to below star 1 and a speck of carbon just right of star 8. Neither mark is visible to the unaided eye. LDS, die state c. The die lines at star 13 are gone and there are fine die cracks at MER and ED. The date repunching remains visible on all 4 digits, strongest over the 7, and the so-called “Small 7” is obvious above the normal 7. Tied for CC#5 overall but finest of the late die state in the Grellman census. A very nice example of this popular “Redbook” variety. Ex Douglas F. Bird 4/1997-R. S. Brown, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 6/2/2002:344-Daniel W. Holmes, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 1/30/2011:179 (includes the Brown and Holmes collection envelopes and both lot tickets)
