Superb lustrous mellowed red fading to light steel brown on the obverse; the reverse is lustrous light steel brown with underlying very faded red in protected areas. The surfaces are satiny, nearly flawless, and this cent has outstanding eye appeal. The only mark is a nick in the hair below star 8. Nicely struck MDS with a fine die crack meandering through star 9, the portrait, and 83 to the rim below. There is a small internal cud break on the left point of star 9 and fine die rust clearly evident on the face into the field off the nose, but there are no rim cuds under the date. A beautiful cent. Our grade is MS64+, close to MS65. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS Gold Shield label.
