Lustrous light to medium brown with subtle overtones of light bluish steel. Satiny and very attractive with only trivial marks. The notable defects are a tiny, very light vertical scuff in the field off the chin, a speck of darker brown toning under the outer edge of the hair bun, and a tiny planchet flake below the right side of the 7 (as struck). MDS. The die lines over MERI are weaker and the point down from the end of the wreath stem is gone. Fresh very fine die polishing lines show on the right side of the reverse, clearest around the E in ONE and AMERICA. This is still the N-8 die state since Newcomb's #7 had all traces of the die lines over MERI lapped off the die. Our grade is MS63. The attribution as N-7 (which is incorrect) is noted on the PCGS label.
