Date: 1836Glossy light to medium brown blending to light olive brown in protected areas. Smooth with hard, slightly reflective fields on both sides. Sharply struck with only trivial marks including a few small ticks and a very light scuff, all right of star 2. Extremely rare EDS, Grellman state a, with a tiny rim cud over star 8 but before the usually seen larger cud that reaches well inside the dentils over star 8 and to the left. About 10 examples of the die state are known. The finest resides in the ANS Collection and it is a choice proof or prooflike cent with traces of mint red. The piece offered here is the second finest by a wide margin (finest available to collectors, obviously), and it comes with a great provenance. Graded AU55 net EF45 by Noyes and CC#2, his photo #21480. Absolutely no idea why the 10 point deduction. A great opportunity for the advanced collector of Middle Date Cents.Ex Thomas L.
