1835 N-7/17 R1 Head of 1836, PCGS graded MS64 Brown, CAC ApprovedLustrous light to medium brown with traces of mint red in protected areas. Satiny and quite attractive but there are a few microscopic marks. The notable marks are a few very light scratches and abrasions on the cheek and a few more in the field between the mouth and star 2. None of these marks is visible to the unaided eye, and even with a glass you need just the right angle on the light to catch them. LDS, die state b. The earlier lumps on the bottoms of the 1 & 8 are gone, the fields are flowlined, and there are tiny lumps from die rust evident on both sides, clearest in the field around ONE CENT. This is Newcomb's #17. There is a clear double profile on the forehead, nose, lips, and chin with additional doubling on stars 1-5 (from die bounce or "machine doubling). Graded MS63 and tied for CC#1 honors in the Noyes census. Our grade is MS63 net MS62 (but the eye appeal suggests the higher grade).Certificate Number: 37057.64/30800036Pedigree: Ex Thomas J.
