Lustrous bright original mint red fading to steel brown on the highpoints with two-thirds of the mint color remaining. Sharply struck with no notable signs of contact, but there are numerous microscopic specks of darker toning scattered over the planchet, mostly on the reverse. A small puff of bluish steel toning in the hair above ER, a speck at the left top of the 5, and another at the right top of the 8 can help identify this piece. LDS, Manley state 3.0, Fuhrman state 3, with several fine die cracks on the reverse. The repunching on the 5 is still visible. A beautiful half cent, most likely from a hoard of mint state examples discovered in the 1930's. Our grade is MS63+. (The reverse of the holder is scuffed.)
