Mint red fading to bluish steel brown with about 25% of the mint red remaining. This cent has outstanding eye appeal and would be considered choice if not for a few trivial contact marks (which unfortunately are more obvious due to the slightly prooflike fields). The notable marks are some extremely tiny ticks in the field left of star 12, a few more on the cheek (which may be pre-striking planchet marks), a very faint curved hairline from star 3 to near the nose tip, and a small nick on the center of star 8, plus a trio of very tiny ticks under the ribbon loop at the bottom of the wreath. None of these marks is significant, but they do count. EDS with smooth, reflective fields that have inspired knowledgeable collectors to call this piece a proof strike, which it is not in our opinion. Nonetheless, it offers great eye candy for cent lovers. Evidence of a 2 or repunched 3 is clearly visible at the left side of the second 3, but the repunching is very delicate (sometimes taken as evidence of an overdate 3 over 2). One of the finest known examples of this scarce die variety, and certainly one of the most attractive. Called MS60+ and tied for CC#4 in the Bland census. Our grade is MS60+ as well. A beautiful cent that comes with a great provenance.

AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
7. Lots will be available for viewing during the Houston Money Show bourse hours January 17, 2020 and by appointment.
