Choice glossy light brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Mint frost shows in the protected areas, especially on the reverse, and the eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. The only marks are some microscopic ticks on the front edge of the nose and a spot of darker toning under the wreath ribbon. E-MDS. The fields on the obverse are smooth, void of any trace of flowlines. This is the plate coin for the variety in the 1940 Newcomb reference on the cents of 1816-1857. Graded EF40 and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #25639. Our grade is EF40 Choice. One of the two finer pieces is in the ANS Collection. Comes with an important provenance. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS Gold Shield label.

AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
7. Lots will be available for viewing during the Houston Money Show bourse hours January 17, 2020 and by appointment.
