Mostly glossy medium steel brown and light olive. The surfaces are decent with microscopic porosity in the reverse fields but smooth elsewhere. No verdigris, only small contact marks consistent with the grade. A nick and two short scratches under star 8 plus a tiny planchet chip on the head above the E in LIBERTY are the only notable marks. The date and legends are complete and clear except for weakness on the tops of ERICA due to the usual strike weakness at the bottom of the reverse (the die faces were not perfectly parallel on all known examples of the variety). One of the few examples of this variety that can qualify for a "real" grade from PCGS, and even fewer that have a chance of getting a CAC certification. Less than two dozen are known, and only a few of those have decent surfaces. Our grade is VG7. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS Gold Shield label.
