Frosty olive brown and chocolate with traces of faded mint red showing in protected areas, particularly on the obverse. The toning on the reverse is darker than the toning on the obverse but there is no roughness. There are a couple light marks on the cheek and some more in the field before the mouth, none significant. Later die state. The die cracks on the obverse are clear and the strike on the O in ONE and E in CENT is relatively weak. This is the plate coin for the 1827 N-9 obverse in the 1940 Newcomb reference on the cents of 1816-1857. Our grade is AU58+, very close to MS60. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS Gold Shield label.
