1825 N-7 R3 Repunched 5, PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC ApprovedChoice lustrous light bluish steel brown with attractive satiny mint frost covering the surfaces. Faint peeps of faded mint red are visible on the obverse while 10% of the reverse shows brighter red color. Sharply struck with great eye appeal and trivial marks. The best identifying marks are a small spot of darker toning in the field under star 6, a dull and barely visible nick on the tip of the chin, and a tick on the center of the line below CENT. Only the spot under star 6 catches your eye. The portrait is bold and there are full radial lines in all the stars. MDS, die state e, with a die crack from the curl at star 13 down to the dentils just right of the date and a rim cud break at star 11 extending halfway up to star 10. The exact status of the rim cuds/crumbling is uncertain due to the strike being a bit off center to K-9. The repunching on the 5 is sharp. Previously identified as the Newcomb plate coin for the variety, but that is not correct. Called MS65 choice and finest known by a full 5 points in the Noyes census, his photo #21287. Bland says MS60+ and CC#1. Both agree this is the only mint state example outside the ANS Museum. Our grade is MS63+, close to MS64.Certificate Number: 36799.65/25134746Pedigree: Ex the property of A. R. L (Minneapolis), Thomas L. Elder 4/1926:1451-Henry C. Hines-Homer K.
