Sharpness near VG7, especially on the obverse, but there is fine roughness in the fields mixed with shallow pits, mostly on the reverse. The highpoints are smooth. Partly glossy light to medium steel brown. No verdigris and the only contact mark is a short line of ticks in the field under the chin. The date is strong, the attribution points are clear, and the eye appeal of this cent is not bad for the grade in spite of the imperfect surfaces. There is a clear double profile from the forehead down to the chin, the only example known to us with this feature (caused by die shift or "machine doubling"). This is one of only 17 examples known, and most of those are in very low grade. The finest is graded net F12. An acceptable example of one of the rarest varieties in the Middle Date Cent series (1816-1839). Noyes graded G6 net G5, his photo #63117.
