Glossy chocolate and dark steel with some lighter chocolate brown in protected areas and a small swipe of lighter reddish brown toning off the right point of star 3. The surfaces are smooth except for the area at STATES OF which is covered with microscopic roughness. Possibly recolored long ago but the toning looks natural and it passed muster at PCGS. No verdigris and the only notable marks are some very light hairline scratches on the neck. An attractive cent, quite nice for this variety. EDS. The die crack through the top of TES in STATES has not formed. Graded VF30 net VF20 and tied for CC#6 in the Noyes census, his photo #39064. Our grade is net VF20+, close to VF25. An important example of a variety that is unknown in grades better than EF40 by EAC grading standards. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS Gold Shield label.
