1822 N-14 R6+ PCGS graded G6Glossy chocolate brown with slightly lighter steel brown toning on the devices. The surfaces are smooth with minor contact marks consistent with the grade. The best identifying marks are a small nick under star 5, a dull nick that blunts the inner point of star 8, and two small spots of darker toning on the hair bun. Nicely struck except for weakness in the center of the reverse, as usual for this very rare die pairing. This is a relatively new discovery and it is one of the finer examples known of the variety. Our grade is G6 (although the obverse is closer to VG7), CC#4 or 5 for the variety in our census of the 15 examples known to us. Most of those 15 are in low grade and most come with significant defects such as damage or corrosion. This is the second-highest grade assigned to the variety by PCGS. Noyes photo #68798. This may be the lowest graded cent in this great collection, but it is one of the most important.Certificate Number: 36751.06/37736013Pedigree: Ex 2019 EAC Sale, Vinton McCawley Auctions 5/4/2019:235-Terry S.
