1822 N-13 R5 PCGS graded AU55, CAC ApprovedGlossy steel brown and tan with frosty mint luster covering the protected areas on both sides. Lighter brown and tan toning dominates on the reverse. Lightly worn on the devices with smooth surfaces and minor contact marks. A pair of very light hairline scratches over star 1 and a tick on the coronet over the B are the only notable defects. The only thing that catches your eye is the uneven toning on the right side of the obverse. The reverse is choice. Early die state. The fields on both sides are smooth and slightly reflective from a fresh die lapping performed before this brief marriage of two previously-used dies. This was the third example discovered of the die variety, and it is the finest known among the 50 or so examples known today. This is the plate coin for the variety in the John Wright reference on the 1816-1839 cent series. Called EF40 and finest known in the Noyes census, his photo #26871. AUCTION TERMS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the buyer. In case of dispute the auctioneer may at his sole discretion reopen a lot. In all cases the auctioneer’s decision shall be final and binding on bidders.
2. The auctioneer reserves the right to refuse to honor any bid which, at his sole discretion, he feels is not submitted in good faith. The auctioneer may withdraw any lot, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever.
3. All sales are payable in U. S. funds immediately upon receipt of invoice unless other arrangements have been made prior to the sale. Lots will not be released to buyers until paid for in full. Lots delivered in state of sale are subject to all applicable state and local taxes unless appropriate permits are on file with us.
4. Postage will be added to the invoice of all successful mail bidders.
5. A 20% buyer’s fee will be added to all invoices.
6. Please keep in mind this is not an approval sale. All sales are considered final. Sales to the floor may not be returned for any reason save authenticity. Sales to mail bidders are final unless lot proves to have been mis-described.
7. Lots will be available for viewing during the Houston Money Show bourse hours January 17, 2020 and by appointment.
