1822 N-12 R4 MS60Lustrous light olive and steel brown with bluish steel overtones, especially on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny and this cent would be choice if not for a tiny, very shallow pit in the field left of star 9. The area around this pit is toned a darker shade of steel brown and is very lightly abraded. The reverse of this cent is flawless and outstanding. EDS with microscopic radial die flowlines. The die crack down through star 7 is very fine. This is the plate coin for the die variety in John D. Wright's 1992 reference The Cent Book 1816-1839. Graded MS60 and CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #27793. Removed from an NGC holder graded MS64BN (NGC label #2038628-046 included, and it shows the attribution and Mervis Collection provenance).Certificate Number: Pedigree: Ex Walter Scott, New Netherlands Coin Co. #44, 1954:192-Willard C.
