1821 N-2 R1 NGC graded MS63 BrownLight bluish steel brown with subtle hints of iridescent rose in the fields. The fields on both sides are smooth and highly reflective, and the eye appeal of this cent is superb. Unfortunately there is a dark stain on the cheek where it appears something rested against the obverse long enough to adversely affect the microscopic texture of the highest points of the portrait. The stain catches your eye immediately and is a big distraction on an otherwise gem cent. MDS, die state c early, and struck with freshly polished dies. The die line from the bust tip is gone but there is no crumbling in the dentils at stars 6-7. Called proof in the Bland census. Noyes says net AU50, his photo #35424. We are reluctant to say this is a proof example of the variety, and the die state supports a non-proof assessment, but the look of this cent certainly leads you in that direction.Certificate Number: 2038628-041Pedigree: Ex C.
