Frosty medium brown and light chocolate with underlying lighter brown in the fields and protected areas. Sharply struck except for weakness on the stars before the portrait, perhaps a result of being struck slightly off center in that direction. The only notable mark is a very light vertical scratch right of star 4 and a dull nick on the right side of that star. Neither mark is visible to the unaided eye and this cent has excellent eye appeal. Called mint state by the folks at PCGS but there is a trace of friction on the highest points of the devices. EDS with fine die cracks through the date and lower stars but before any crumbling in the dentils on the obverse. Graded AU55 net AU50 and tied for CC#4 in the Noyes census, his photo #28389. Our grade is AU55. Comes with a superior provenance for a middle date large cent. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS Gold Shield label.
