Frosty chocolate and steel with lighter brown toning on the reverse. No roughness or verdigris, only light contact marks. The notable marks are a fine scratch in the field before the portrait, a nick well hidden in the hair below the Y, and a dull scratch between the outer points of stars 11 & 12. M-LDS. The radial die crack through star 3 is strong but it does not reach the upper lip, and there is obvious swelling in the obverse fields. The O in ONE is gone, as usual, due to the swelling. Graded VF30 net VF20 and tied for CC#5 in the Noyes census, his photo #22390 (was called VF25 in his previous census list). Our grade is VF30+ sharpness net VF25. This is the plate coin for the variety in the John D. Wright reference on the cents of 1816-1839. A very nice example of a variety that is quite difficult to find in grades better than Fine. The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.
