Sharpness close to mint state but the crack that is always present through the date and stars has been expertly removed. The work was done with incredible skill and is barely detectable under magnification. In addition the recoloring is equally remarkable with frosty steel brown surfaces that looks totally original. If it weren't for the trace of the crack inside the top of the first 8 and where the crack exits from stars 10 & 11 you might be completely fooled. Some have speculated this may be the Chapman-Blaisdell example that was reported as having been struck using a "perfect die" (see John Wright's comments for this variety in his reference "The Cent Book."). Worth a careful look just for education purposes.
