1817 N-7 R7 (as a die state) PCGS graded F12Glossy dark chocolate brown and steel with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. Mostly smooth but there is some microscopic granularity in the fields and protected areas plus traces of dirt or minor verdigris in protected areas on the reverse. The only mark is an old diagonal scratch above and below the E in LIBERTY. Extremely rare EDS, die state a, before the "Mouse" break on top of the head. The reverse is sharper than the obverse, as always, because the obverse die was well worn from use in an earlier marriage while the reverse die is new. In addition the top of the reverse is not as well struck as the lower half because the dies were not in proper axial alignment (the die faces were not perfectly parallel). About a half dozen examples in this die state are known, and the finest grades F12 by EAC grading standards. Noyes photo #28012. Our grade is net VG10.Certificate Number: 36568.12/30809065Pedigree: Ex Chris McCawley 10/2002-W. M. "Jack" Wadlington (The Twin Leaf Collection), Stack's Bowers 7/16/2015:2021-Terry S.
