1817 N-7 R3+ PCGS graded AU58+, CAC ApprovedLustrous steel brown and light chocolate with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints and lustrous lighter toning in the protected areas. Virtually flawless. Looks mint state to the unaided eye but a glass reveals a light touch of friction on the highest points of the devices. The best identifying mark is a small spot of darker toning (not carbon) near the hair under star 7. M-LDS, die state c. The "Mouse" break resting on the top of the head under star 8 is strong. There are four die cracks elsewhere on the obverse, the strongest of these arcing down from the tip of the nose toward star 2, but no cud breaks. Called AU55 and tied for CC#3 in the Bland census. Noyes says AU55 and tied for CC#4 in his census, photo #27884. Our grade is AU55. A very attractive example of the popular "Mouse Top" die state.Certificate Number: 36568.58+/83246702Pedigree: Ex Frederic W. Geiss, B. Max Mehl 2/18/1947:130-Dr. Kenneth J.
