Glossy dark olive brown and steel. Covered with very fine roughness under the glossy toning, strongest on the reverse. No verdigris and only a few trivial contact marks including a tick midway between the chin and star 3, a couple dull nicks high on the cheekbone, and a rim nick at IT in UNITED. Later die state with strong die cracks at TATE including one up from that E to the dentils above. The area above TATE is slightly sunken. The bisecting crack across the reverse is clear. A sharp cent with imperfect surfaces, but the glossy toning helps the eye appeal. Graded EF45 net VF30 and tied for CC#7 in the Noyes census, his photo #28854. Bland says net VF35. Our grade is net VF30. This cent comes with a very nice provenance. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS Gold Shield label.
