Frosty mint red mellowing to light steel brown on the highpoints with about 75% of the coin showing mint color (must be right on the edge for a "RED" designation by PCGS). The surfaces are lustrous and this cent has great eye appeal. The only notable marks are a small spot of darker toning over the inner part of the hair bun and a speck of carbon over the left side of the O in ONE. LDS with no clearly defined dentils remaining visible on the obverse. Most likely from the Randall Hoard of mint state cents discovered shortly following the US Civil War. A common variety in mint state as a result of the hoard but quite rare with this much original mint red showing. The upper part of the hair bun is softly struck, which is normal for the variety. Noyes graded MS63, his photo #35156. Our grade is MS63+. Previously removed from a PCGS slab graded MS64RD (PCGS label #1596.64/3156376). The attribution and Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label.
