Sharpness very close to mint state but this cent has been tooled, burnished, and retoned. Very attractive glossy chocolate brown and steel with satiny frost covering the reverse. Tooling along the front of the neck and under the chin removed crumbling associated with the late die state, and the obverse was then burnished and expertly retoned. Why someone would do this is a mystery to me. The reverse appears to have avoided such treatment. LDS, Breen state XIII, with a clearly defined rim cud at the D in UNITED. Our grade is AU55 sharpness net EF40 (and you could argue for a lower net grade just for the stupidity displayed here). The attribution is noted on the NGC label. 3829042-001
