1811 S-287 R2 PCGS graded AU55Very attractive glossy light to medium steel brown and light olive with frosty lighter brown and tan in protected areas. Sharply struck with generous traces of golden tan faded down from mint color on the reverse. Looks absolutely choice, void of any contact marks, but a glass reveals there is a thin layer of lacquer or some similar protectant on both sides. A few tiny spots of darker brown toning right of the D in UNITED and another under the left foot of the N in CENT can help identify this cent. MDS, Breen state III, with a subtle bulge from the final 1 to star 13. Graded MS60 and tied for CC#9 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60 and tied for CC#1, his photo #85277. Our grade is AU55. Comes with a long, impressive provenance.Certificate Number: 36496.55/61275957Pedigree: Ex Dr. G. F. E. Wilharm, B. Max Mehl 2/15/1921:1478-Dr. George P. French-B. Max Mehl 1929 FPL, lot 363-H. A.
