Date: 1811Sharpness at least G4 with some details better, but the surfaces are covered with moderate roughness. No verdigris but there are a few dull contact marks on both sides including a pinch or dent at the right bottom of the reverse. In spite of the poor surfaces the date is complete and easily readable and most of the legends are clear. Dull dark steel gray. Extremely rare M-LDS, Manley state 4.0, Fuhrman state 5, with a strong cud break at stars 1 & 2. About 8 are known with the 2-star cud break, and none is in high grade. The famous Missouri Cabinet Collection, the finest collection of half cents ever assembled, had an AG-3 example of the die state. Removed from a PCGS slab graded Genuine, G Details, Damage (PCGS label #35239.98/81421829 included, and it shows the attribution). Graded Fair-2 by Noyes, his photo #10645. Another very important die state for the specialist.Ex Chris McCawley, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 6/4/2017:413 (lot ticket included)
