Lustrous steel brown with tan in protected areas, especially on the reverse where the tan dominates. The surfaces are satiny and this piece has outstanding eye appeal. Just a few microscopic marks from flawless. A tiny tick on the top of the second S in STATES and an extremely fine scratch under the R in AMERICA can help identify this piece. LDS, Manley state 3.0, Fuhrman state 4. The fields are flowlined and the dentils are weak or missing. The meandering die crack through the top of the 7 is clear and the repunching on that numeral is mostly hidden in flowlines. This is the Breen plate coin for the variety (the large photos) in his 1983 half cent encyclopedia (page 278). Our grade is MS62+, close to MS63. Housed in an older generation PCGS slab.
