1805 C-2 R5 Small 5 with Stems ANACS graded F12

Glossy medium steel brown and light chocolate. Smooth and very attractive for the grade, nearly choice (especially for this very tough variety). Not a hint of roughness or verdigris, just minor contact marks including a thin, nearly horizontal nick under the chin and a collection of tiny ticks close off the upper end of the hair ribbon. Looks like a piece that has never been brushed. Early die state with no trace of a bulge in the field before the portrait. The date and devices, including all of HALF CENT, are strong. Several letters on the reverse show doubling (machine doubling), especially STATE and AM. A new discovery and third finest according to our census. The F12 grade assigned by ANACS is conservative; this piece is close to a higher grade, especially the reverse. Our grade is F12+. Far superior to the Manley plate coin for the variety and a prize for the advanced collector of half cents. The attribution is noted on the ANACS label.
