1803 S-257 R2 Small Date, Large Fraction VF20Mostly glossy tan and light chocolate with a few splashes of reddish brown toning on the obverse. A sharp cent with light wear and decent eye appeal, but there are defects. A glass reveals traces of fine roughness and verdigris in a few of the reddish areas, and there are numerous dull scratches on both sides. The notable marks are a couple dull scratches in the field at the ends of the hair ribbon, dull scratches tucked against the profile from the chin to the bottom of the neck, and a dull scratch inside the right loop of the wreath ribbon. The eye appeal of this cent is better than the technical grade. LDS, Breen state IV late, with die cracks on the reverse, die clashmarks on both sides, and heavy swelling at the top of the reverse. Graded EF40 net VF25 and tied for CC#18 in the Noyes census.Certificate Number: Pedigree: From the Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
