Slightly sharper but the reverse is coated with a thin layer of some protectant leaving those fields very glossy. Possibly lightly cleaned and retoned but the color is decent. What makes this cent special is the die state. The die cracks on the upper half of the reverse are strong and the area between cracks under ES is raised (a retained cud). Die failure at TATE has resulted in the elimination of the earlier cud at STA, and the opposing area left of the lower curls is very weakly struck as a result. Can't recall another instance of a disappearing cud. Noyes graded VF25 net F12 and unique in this die state, his photo #35068. A piece for the die state specialist. From the Daniel W.
